Choosing the Right Export Partner
A short checklist for importers evaluating a fox nut supplier.

1. Registrations and certifications
An Indian food exporter should hold an IEC (Import Export Code) and FSSAI licence. APEDA registration, ISO 22000 or HACCP certification indicate stronger food-safety systems. Ask for copies and check validity dates.
2. Clear specifications
A reliable supplier states the grade in millimetres, moisture limit, tolerance for broken pieces and packing format before quoting — not after.
3. Samples and lab reports
Request a pre-shipment sample and a lab report from an accredited (e.g. NABL) laboratory covering moisture, microbiology and contaminants relevant to your market.
4. Export documentation
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Phytosanitary certificate
- Certificate of Origin
- Fumigation certificate where required
- Certificate of analysis
5. Packing and shelf life
Makhana is light and absorbs moisture, so bulk packing should be food-grade and well sealed. Properly packed fox nuts typically keep around 9 months in cool, dry storage.
